Art & Music
Sarasota Christian School’s elementary program provides opportunities outside of the academic curriculum that are designed to nurture the whole child. In elementary art classes, we strive to glorify God through artwork and instruction. Students are exposed to a variety of mediums including; watercolors, tempera paint, pencil, colored pencil, markers, and clay.
In music classes, fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, note reading, vocal technique and steady beats will be taught through musical activities and games. In upper elementary, music classes will focus on both instrumental and vocal music. Focus is placed on music theory, music reading and listening skills, and composer studies. Highlights of the elementary music program are the Christmas program and a spring concert.
Middle School & High School
Band & Orchestra
Students gain better musicianship through the practice and performance of full band and orchestra literature. Performances include the annual Celebration of Praise dinner theater in December, several school concerts, as well as community events. Students provide their own instruments.
Students practice and perform choral literature with emphasis placed on proper technique for singers, sight-reading skills, good tone production, and choral blend. Members of the touring choir spend one week each spring performing at the MSC Music Festival that is hosted by a different school each year in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. The trips include performing sacred concerts in host churches and performing in a mass choir under the direction of a master clinician.
High school students have the opportunity to audition for drama productions. This is a wonderful chance for students interested in theater to participate in all aspects of play production: performance, direction, design, technical support, etc. Students present fall and winter plays and perform in Celebration of Praise.
