Accelerated College Education (ACE) ProgramSarasota Christian School, in collaboration with State College of Florida, has developed an accelerated college preparatory program that provides higher-level academic opportunities (16 honor courses, 1 AP course and 10 college courses) for qualified SCS students beginning with the class of 2014. This program is designed to challenge academically accelerated students with honors course and program standards on par with AP and IB courses offered in the public schools in Sarasota County. When students graduate from this accelerated track they will receive the coveted ACE Award and special recognition at graduation. Students entering SCS in their ninth grade year may apply to enter the program. Students may only enter the program if they have maintained a 3.75 un-weighted GPA or better during 7th and 8th grade. In addition, they must have completed Algebra 1 as a high school credit. The application process requires the student to submit report cards for the previous year and the first semester of the present year, the English and Math Recommendation Forms and standardized test scores. In addition, students are encouraged to attach a letter of recommendation from a source outside of the school setting and include a description of extra curricular activities and leadership opportunities they have had. These will be used to help determine acceptance into the program. Students who have maintained a 3.75 un-weighted GPA or higher and have demonstrated servant leadership qualities in other ways may also apply for one of four freshman academic scholarships. (two $1,000 scholarships and two $500.00 scholarships) Students who transfer from other schools to SCS as sophomores may also apply for entrance into the ACE program. The transcript must show an accelerated course of study comparable to the ACE program. (Honors, IB or AP courses, etc). They must have completed Algebra 1 and Geometry Honors. In addition, the student will need to submit a transcript of high school courses taken showing an overall un-weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher, the English and Math Recommendation Forms and the latest standardized test results. Students are encouraged to attach a letter of recommendation from a source outside of the school setting and include a description of extra curricular activities and leadership opportunities they have had. Once accepted into the ACE program, the student will not only be expected to continue achieving excellent grades, but will also be expected to demonstrate Christ-like character and leadership qualities that will provide a good role model for other students. In addition, teachers will evaluate your student’s progress each semester to ensure students continue to meet the academic, behavioral and character qualities expected of the ACE students. Infractions to school rules and/or program expectations could result in removal from the program. The ACE program students must take the courses outlined on the backside and maintain a 3.75 un-weighted GPA or higher. If a student falls below a 3.75 un-weighted GPA, he will have one semester on probation to acquire the needed GPA to continue in the ACE program and still be eligible for the ACE Award. This exception will only be allowed one time. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Smith in the front office by April 30th. Program of Studies
